CHaOS at Crosswinds
All rowers using club equipment for a 1x, 2x, or 2- are required to wear a PFD until water temperature reaches 60 (we will add water temperature to the practice invitations). Six club PFDs are located in the filing cabinets.
While not an exhaustive list, we remind you to please consider these as essential elements before every row:
· Check the temperatures of water and air as well as wind speeds and wind direction before you launch (winds from SW are the dangerous ones).
· Have a safety plan in mind before you launch:
- Are you wearing a PFD?
- What do I do when I flip?
- Are you confident being able to fix any issues with the boat, flip the boat, hoist yourself back in the boat, and row back to the dock?
- Can you paddle with the boat to shore or the docks?
- Do you have the TowUS numbers on you (Andy has laminated cards for you)?
Additional Safety Committee Updates
· Members using club equipment to teach private rowing lessons must have US Rowing coaching certification and the insurance that comes with it
· All members are required to check out/reserve a club boat PRIOR to going out for a non-club sanctioned row. If you take boats out outside of CHaOS practice times, please reserve them here: https://calendar.chaosrowing.org
